The purpose of iBikeFresno.org is to promote biking in Fresno, both by keeping the local biking community encouraged and informed, and by being the central destination for the “Million Mile Challenge”. The MMC challenges Fresnans to log a million miles on their bikes during the month of May.

The most challenging part of this project was the MMC component. While some of the initial work was completed by the inimitable Isaac Horton, I was called in to expand the feature set and overhaul the UI. In addition I developed a custom “Statistics” module featured on the home page during the month of May. Using the component, users can log their miles, set a goal, chart their progress, join a team, check ranking and more.

iBikeFresno.org is running on Joomla 1.5 and features a custom theme, a custom MMC component, and several custom modules. Thanks goes out to Byron Watkins and Steve Darval at JP Marketing.

The Tachi Palace’s website had hundreds of pages of content, and nearly all of them were in need of frequent updates. Being a smaller casino with a smaller budget, they needed their website to directly connect to their clients, letting them know of changes in promotions and entertainment. In the past, they had good looking web pages that were infrequently updated, or ugly web pages that stayed current. They needed an attractive, easy to use solution in order to remain competitive in an increasingly crowded market.

I chose to use Joomla due to it’s ease of use and it’s huge ecosystem of third party components.  When the site was complete I provided a few short training sessions, and I was able to teach a non-technical staff how to update most areas of the site with no assistance.

Not long after this update, the Tachi Palace’s website was receiving nearly double the traffic that Chuckchansi and Table Mountain were getting, making it the number one casino website in the Central Valley (according to statistics taken in August of 2009).

This a collection of some of my older designs- but ones that I’m still proud of.  Most of these are screeengrabs, but a few are mock-ups of projects that never got off the ground. Some of them (like the Vick Law Group site) won Addy awards.

A lot of these are Joomla sites (like the Prestige Surface Works and the Institute for Family Business sites), but some of them are WordPress, and some are entirely hand coded.

I’m especially proud of the Lakes RV & Golf site, as it was designed with accessibility in mind. It features large, high-contrast text to make it easy on the eyes of older web users.

When the Fresno Advertising Federation asked us to put on the 29th Annual Addy Awards, we knew we wanted to do seomthing different than the boring awards shows they had done in the past.  We wanted to do something they would talk about for years to come. It started with a question- “What is creativity?”.  Here we are in an industry that lies at the intersection of art and commerce, so we felt it was a fitting question.

We started with an invitation prompting people to go to the website whatiscreativity.org.  Once there, they were greeted with a question, and prompted provide their own answer.  The web site was built on WordPress, due to it’s built in commenting and moderation system.

The response was immediate, and overwhelming.  People were debating the web site, discussing the invintation, and excited about the show.

The show itself was an exploration of creativity and inspiration.  A jazz band improvised, painters painted, short films were shown and interviews of people talking about inspiration were played.
